Who’s it for…
From Junior Infants to 6th Class
Where…
Around the school grounds or at a nature site of your choice (we can recommend sites if that helps)
What the day entails…
Introduction talk with ‘nature props’. This gets pupils hooked on what is to be seen, opens a discussion on what is autumn and what effect autumn has on our plants and animals. Followed by hands on tactile exploration of all nature signs in the area. For younger classes focus points will be on using their senses to explore and become relaxed in the outdoors. For older classes a more in-depth exploration of the habitats, relationships and basic needs of the area during autumn will be explored. The day typically finishes with an activity such as autumn crown making, acorn planting or some other seasonally relevant event.
What the teacher needs to do…
Preparatory discussions on the seasons and what the animals are doing in autumn can be helpful. Potential for a display, autumn nature table or poster type project will be delivered as part of the day if required. Please ensure that pupils have boots/wellies, warm clothes and rain gear.
