Who’s it for…
From Junior infants to 6th Class.
Where…
Around the school grounds or local area (town or rural) and in the classroom.
Duration…
Half day or full day.
What the day entails…
What is a minibeast. What insects and other bugs do for us. Mini beast hunt around the school grounds or further afield. Parts of an insect. The butterfly lifecycle if not already covered by the teacher. Making minibeasts with gathered natural materials. If weather is suitable making a giant minibeast on the school grounds. Older classes will explore eco-services and the process of pollination.
What the teacher needs to do…
Covering the lifecycle of the butterfly is an excellent way of introducing pupils to mini beasts. Discussing their role in nature and what they do for us would be very relevant to the day.
